Nicky Canis Results The Breed FCI-standard Tracking Obedience

This is the story about Nicky

The story of our first Karelian Beardog is quiet special. One day in the late summer 2001 Kristine was reading Den Blå Avis on the Internet and stumpled over an advertisement where someone was selling a dog of mixed breeds. Prior to this we had desided to get a dog of some sort and therefore Kristine call the advertiser. Kristine asked if she still had the dog in the advertisement and she answered: "No, I am sorry, but I have a Karelian Beardog... They talk about the dog for a short time and we desided to go to Hillerød the samt night to see the dog.

Before we left for Hillerød vi had some time to find out what breed a Karelian Beardog was since none of us knew it very well. We read about it on the Internet and quickly found out that it is a independent dog which was originally breed for hunting bears in Finland. But that should not be a problem since we are living in a 58m2 apartment i Hvidovre...! Then we left for Hillerød.

On the way to Hillerød we talk about this dog that we where going to seen and desided that we would not buy it based on its apperence as people tend to do with dogs. We got of the train and walked to the meeting place and started to wait. No more than a couple of minutes pasted and then we saw a lady coming towards us with a black and white dog at the end of a very tight leash. "It is you that is interested in a Karelian Beardog?" she asked. We found ourselfs in 5 seconds of silence, just standing there admirering the beautiful little dog! When we recovered from our trance we followed the lady back to her house where we discussed the breed and what past the dog had. Her was 8 month old at that time. We had already desided to by him...

Kristine asked the lady just before we told her that we would buy him if a Karelian Beardog can live in an apartment at the second floor in Hvidovre. She answered quickly and without hesitation: "Yes of course, if you make sure he get enough fresh air that should not be a problem at all...". Good, we thought and then we bought Nicky. And all of a sudden we where the lucky owner of a Karelian Beardog.

I love to sleep alot....! (Very un-karelian)

What happened through the next several years is a completely other story. Shortly we can say that we have ended up with the best Karelian Beardog in the world! He has become a real family dog who enjoys to relax and hang out with us when we are at home or some where else. At the same time he is a real Karelian Beardog when we do tracking, obedience or simply taking a walk in the open nature...
